In a world where the traditional 9-to-5 job is no longer the only option, gig work offers a refreshing and exciting alternative. In Fractional jobs: Have your cake and eat it too we talked about the gig economy and fractional jobs and how they are gaining traction in the wider economy.

In this piece, we’re going to talk about why they are relevant no matter how old you are. TLDR: Fractional work isn’t  exclusive to senior-level professionals but is  a versatile model that can benefit you wherever you are on your career journey.

  • Young professionals and students: As you’re starting out on your career journey, adopting a fractional job mindset could offer the chance to explore different industries and roles. This exploration can help you better understand your passion and strengths resulting in a career that is suited to your personality and interests.
  • Career-changers: The same applies for career-changers who may be dipping their toes into a brand new industry. Take the time to explore and get to know the different options available before taking the leap.
  • Part-time workers: For those looking for work-life balance, the great news is that there is an increasing appreciation for the importance of caring for our mental health and some of the stigma related to part-time work has abated over the years. Fractional jobs offer you flexibility to manage personal interests and side projects, all while keeping yourself meaningfully plugged into the rest of the economy.

The good news is that with the increased prevalence of gig work, there are a plethora of specialised job boards such as Jobs on Demand (Jod) and Fiverr. Jod recently rolled out JodRewards in which users accumulate points through activity on the platform and can then use these points to redeem benefits tailored specifically to the needs of gig workers. This includes insurance-based benefits or paid break time.
